The aim of this programme is to shed light on the untold story of Guide Dogs. We will follow the process of their training all the way through to a guide dogs’ retirement. The story of one individual called Jania, who lost her sight following a freak reaction to penicillin will form the narrative thread for Martin Clunes to explore this remarkable Guide Dog story. The plan is for Martin Clunes to adopt Jania’s retiring guide dog, Laura, and then we follow Jania on her quest to find a new guide dog.
Dogs will feature heavily throughout this programme. Buffalo Pictures will ensure that best practices for animal welfare are upheld at all times. The crew will be accompanied by trained employees of Guide Dogs UK, who are specialists in training and handling dogs. The crew will act at all times under the instruction of these trained staff when working with training Guide Dogs.
